SEND in Languages

SEND - Aims and Equal Access in Languages

Aims - How are we providing an ambitious curriculum for all pupils, including SEND, allowing them all to make progress from their individual starting points?

  • By the end of year 4, children are secure in the lower KS2 MFL curriculum. This enables them to make a smooth transition to middle school where they will use their previous learning and knowledge to access the upper KS2 MFL curriculum.
  • SEND is not a not a limiting factor. Differentiated written work is made available when required. Smaller groups are considered when completing verbal work/assessments.

Equal Access - How are we adapting each subject in order to help all pupils, including those with SEND, to make progress from their starting point?

  • Differentiated written resources provided based on SEND assessment and teacher’s previous knowledge of individual child.
  • Groups to be mixed ability to promote involvement, collaboration and peer support when required.
  • Provide extra time to allow children with SEND to engage with verbal responses.
  • Consider the advantage of visual work/stimulus.
  • Consider the use of iPads to allow repetitive visual and auditory learning.
