Mickley youngsters appeal for support from Tesco shoppers

MICKLEY children are in the running to receive up to £12,000 to update the village’s playground.

Riding Dene play area is one of three areas in the region to have been shortlisted to win funding from supermarket giant, Tesco.

Money raised from its 5p bag charge will be given to the shortlisted schemes of which one is play equipment for youngsters in Mickley.

Later this month, shoppers will be invited to vote for their favourite scheme and the project with the most votes will receive £12,000, with the runner up schemes receiving £10,000 and £8,000 respectively.

The scheme to improve Riding Dene play area has been drawn up by county councillor Anne Dale, Mickley First School and the county council’s local services team.

Coun. Dale said: “The children, the school and the local community have worked so hard, with myself, to develop a project that has obviously struck a chord with the Tesco bags fund. Now all we have to do is get as many people as possible to vote for the Mickley project – so that we get as much funding as we can for exciting new play equipment.”

Pupil Matthew Hughes said: “We want to thank Tesco very much, we appreciate the money that has been given us and we will try and use it wisely.

“Please remember to vote for us when you visit your local Tesco store.”

Voting opens in Tesco stores on September 26 and runs to October 9.
