YOUNGSTERS in Mickley can make the most of the school holidays at their new-look play park.

West Mickley play area has recently been transferred to the ownership of Prudhoe Town Council.

The play area, surrounded by woods and fields, had looked rather down at heel of late.

So once the transfer was complete, Prudhoe Town Council arranged for it to be given a makeover.

Children from Mickley First School were involved in the design of the new play area and and choice of equipment, along with local child minders and nearby families.

The new facility offers a mixture of interactive and traditional play, with space for ball games and picnics alongside the play equipment.
Not all of the equipment has been replaced; equipment in good condition has been given a lick of paint.

The refurbishment was carried out by HAGS-SMP and was completed in time for the official opening on Wednesday, July 12.

Headteacher Andy Hudson and newly-appointed class teacher Charlotte Murray accompanied reception class students to the new play area, so the children could give it their seal of approval.

Mr Hudson said: “The children were delighted to be asked to help open the park. The new facilities are lovely and we are sure the park will be well used in the coming years. ”

Coun. Christine Cuthbert, who championed the scheme, said: “I’m so pleased the school could be involved as they are a huge part of this small community.

“The children are happy, and that’s what it is all about.”
